What My Dog Has Brought
This may be rambling, but I hope it can be encouraging to someone in some way.
Childhood abuse, led into abusive relationships, led into therapy, led into protest behavior that finally came to an end 2 years ago.
I was so afraid to be alone that the only way I could truly give myself time to heal was to get a dog. Her name is Padfoot and she is the best.
This 15 pound ball of fluff has become my best friend and has done some miraculous things. Last year we fled from Irma, and she was the one that let us know my friend's daughter was having a seizure. Padfoot stayed by her during the car rides and put her to bed every night we were gone. She cares for my kid's when they have nightmares and has stayed up late nights with me. When I finally started dating again, it was her who picked him.
As I'm typing this, I am listening to my partner snore while sleeping in my kid's room to help them fall asleep, while she peaks in to check on them before coming to cuddle them.
My life has gotten so much better, and I blame her :')
